In 2018, 14.9 billion pounds of milk were produced by dairy farmers in New York state, 0.3 percent less than what 2017 managed to pull in, according to a new report from the USDA's National Agriculture Statistics Service.
Production averaged at 23,888 pounds per New York cow, 37 pounds below 2017's average. The average number of milk cows on farms in New York in 2018 was 623,000, down by 1,000 in 2017.
