AUBURN - Frank A. Eldredge Sr., 82, of Crescent Avenue, Auburn, died unexpectedly Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2002, in Auburn Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Eldredge was born in Auburn, the son of the late Charles Frederick and Marjorie Ketcham Eldredge and has resided here all of his life. He was a graduate of East High School Class of 1938 and Cornell University Class of 1942. He was awarded his MBA from Harvard University in 1943. He owned and operated the Eldredge Coal and Ice Co.
Mr. Eldredge served in both the Pacific and European theaters of operation during World War II as a submarine officer. He retired from the Naval Reserve in 1980.
Mr. Eldredge was an active member of the Cayuga County Council of the Boy Scouts of America for more than 60 years. He became an Eagle Scout in 1934. He served as president of the council for seven years, and currently served as council treasurer. In addition, Mr. Eldredge was a recipient of the Silver Beaver Award.
Mr. Eldredge was a member and former trustee of the First Presbyterian Church of Auburn. He was an avid fisherman and accomplished musician.
Surviving is his wife, Nancy Mack Eldredge of Auburn; one daughter, Linda M. Ehrich of Syracuse; one son, Frank A. Eldredge Jr. and his wife Susan of Muskegan, Mich.; seven grandchildren, Dennis A. Ehrich of Kansas, Mo., Matthew B. Ehrich of Ruckersville, Va., Peter S. Ehrich of Chicago, Ill., Brandon L. Ehrich of Auburn, Courtney M. Ehrich of Syracuse, Blake A. Eldredge of Canton, Mich., and Kelly Eldredge Dewitt of Muskegon, Mich.; five great-grandchildren; one brother-in-law, John J. Dundon of Auburn; one nephew, Peter A. Dundon of Camillus; one niece, Deborah D. McCallion on Montrose; several cousins including Jason Gavras of Auburn, Jonathan G. Gavras M.D. of West Palm Beach, Fla., Robert Mack of Weedsport, Benjamin G. Mack of Weedsport and Peter M. Blauvelt of Fair Haven.
Mr. Eldredge was predeceased by his sister, Frances "Fay" Dundon, who died in 2001.
Funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family. There will be no calling hours. Entombment will be in St. Joseph's Mausoleum.
