An Auburn man is facing criminal charges after allegedly driving while intoxicated Friday morning with a previous conviction within the last 10 years, the Auburn Police Department said.

Joseph J. Wise III, 35, 339 Clark St., was charged with felony driving while intoxicated and operating a motor vehicle with a blood alcohol content level greater than .08-percent.  The APD said that around 2:30 a.m., Wise drove into the intersection of Clark Street and Aurelius Avenue. While driving on Clark Street, he moved onto Aurelius Avenue and failed to halt his vehicle at a stop sign in the process, police said.

An officer then pulled Wise over for a traffic stop. Wise failed several standard sobriety tests, police said, and was taken to the Auburn police station, where he gave a breath sample over the .08-percent BAC state legal limit. Wise had previously been convicted of DWI in 2010, the APD said.

Wise was arraigned at Auburn City Court Friday morning and was released on his own recognizance. He is due next in court Feb. 20.
