An Auburn woman was arrested Monday after she stole from an employee at the Fingerlakes Mall and was found to have a taser in her possession, according to New York State Police.
Jessica T. Richardson, 22, completed a job interview at JCPenney in the Fingerlakes Mall on Monday and left the store. The same day, she returned to an office in the store to retrieve a cellphone she had left behind, according to state police. She proceeded to take a purse and wallet from one of the employees and went to the Spirit Halloween store in the mall to buy two children's costumes. Richardson paid for the costumes using a prepaid debit card that belonged to the employee, police said.
When she was arrested shortly after purchasing the costumes, officers discovered she had a ViperTek taser and was wanted in Buffalo on two active warrants, according to police.
Richardson was charged with fourth-degree grand larceny and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon. She was arraigned in Aurelius Town Court and remanded to Cayuga County Jail without bail. She is scheduled to appear in court at 7 p.m. on Sept. 19.
