Helicopter Transport

Auburn firefighters shield themselves from the debris kicked up by the incoming LifeNet helicopter to airlift a motorcyclist after an accident in Auburn on Thursday.

The Auburn Police Department has identified the motorcycle driver who was airlifted to Upstate University Hospital after a crash with a car Thursday.

Police on Friday said the motorcyclist was Carl McNabb. The Cayuga County branch of the American Bikers Aimed Toward Education organization wrote in a Facebook post Thursday night that McNabb, a member of the group, had been in an accident and had been taken to Upstate.

"We are thinking about you, Carl, and sending prayers and get well wishes," the organization wrote.

The call came in around 6:40 p.m. Thursday for a scene near the railroad tracks near North Division and Columbus streets and Arterial West Thursday. The APD had said that a 2013 Chevrolet sedan had been traveling north on Columbus Street when a 1998 Honda motorcycle ran into the back of the car.

A LifeNet helicopter transported McNabb approximately 10 to 15 minutes after the accident.
