A Walmart employee is facing felony charges after stealing over $3,500 worth of electronics from the store's storage room, the Auburn Police Department said Tuesday.

Gary D. Swarthout, 20, of 8728 Wilsey Road, Port Byron, is facing two counts of fourth-degree larceny, Auburn police said.

One charge stems from Feb. 23 when Swarthout is accused of stealing an iPhone X valued at $1,049 and a pair of headphones valued at $99 at around 2:20 a.m, police said. Swarthout is also accused of stealing another iPhone X valued at $1,199, an Apple Watch valued at $399 and a Samsung Galaxy S8 valued at $899 on March 2 at around 7 a.m., police said.

Swarthout was arrested at 11:30 p.m. March 3, and at that time, police found 6.7 grams of marijuana in his backpack so he was also charged with possession of marijuana, police said.

Swarthout was arraigned in Auburn City Court on March 4.
