Contrary to a recent change to its Google listing, the Auburn location of Taco Bell is not "permanently closed."
Under repair since an April 30 fire, the Mexican fast food chain's 168 Grant Ave. location will reopen at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 23, a manager said.
AUBURN — The Taco Bell restaurant at 168 Grant Ave. in Auburn is closed after a fire Sunday …
The fire damaged the rear wall near the Taco Bell's drive-thru menu. The Auburn Fire Department said the fire started at the mulch pile there — most likely by discarded smoking material — and ruled the fire accidental. No one inside the restaurant was hurt, though one firefighter was treated for minor injuries at the scene.
The department cut open the Taco Bell's rear wall and interior ceiling to contain and extinguish the fire. About 14 firefighters responded to the scene and extinguished the fire within an hour.

The restaurant's ownership commended the Auburn department, calling its responders polite and communicative, and its cleanup of the scene professional.
Repairs at the restaurant have mostly addressed water damage from the firefighting effort, ownership continued, including the replacement of ceiling tiles and the installation of a new cooler.
