School Resource Officer Sean DeRosa helps deliver Thanksgiving meals to local families in need.

HIT: To the caring community that we're fortunate to live and work in every day in Cayuga County.

The generosity and compassion of so many local people was on display this week at a couple of events. On Wednesday, Auburn police officers, school staff and students took part in the tradition of delivering Thanksgiving meals to more than 100 families who need a little help this holiday season. A similar effort took place in Seneca Falls. Majorpalooza, the nonprofit community charity organization started by APD Officer Chris Major, oversees the effort.

A day later, volunteers with the Auburn Salvation Army donated time and talent to help prepare and serve the free community Thanksgiving meal that so many people cherish each year.

MISS: To the case of a Genoa woman who was sentenced this week for making methamphetamine and setting her home on fire in the process.

The crime netted a sentence of probation and 400 hours of community service. We hope the punishment will be enough to make this person realize the danger she put herself and so many others in.

HIT: To ABC Cayuga's plan to build its highly anticipated Play Space in a former bank building in downtown Auburn.

The indoor facility aimed at pre-school children will open early next year in the unique concrete building at the corner of North and Genesee streets, for many years the home to HSBC Bank.

Grant Kyle recently purchased nearly an entire block, including that building, and he's worked a deal with ABC Cayuga to house their ambitious project. This is a terrific step forward for the community, which will see a special property come back to life and offer a valued service to families with young children.
