3. "Portal 2" (2011, Valve Corporation, for Linux, PlayStation 3, Windows and Xbox 360)

"Portal 2" achieves two feats, both rare among video games, that vault it over most of its peers from the past decade: It makes you laugh, and it makes you feel like a genius. But Valve Corporation's sardonic puzzler also achieves a Pixar-like elegance that most other games can only envy. None of its contents are superfluous. Every little element inside the vast warehouses of foolhardy tech experimenters Aperture Science has purpose, whether it's surreptitiously guiding you toward a "eureka!" solution or telling a story that's at once moving and darkly hilarious. "Portal 2" is simply one of the most perfectly made games of the 2010s.
