Archpriest Stephen Charles Mack

AUBURN — Archpriest Stephen Charles Mack passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family on Sunday, Oct. 22, 2017 at Matthew House.

Father was born in Cohoes, N.Y. on Sept. 10, 1953, the son of Stephen and the late Helen Gydamashuk Mack. He was a 1971 graduate of Keveny Memorial Academy, and St. Tikhon’s Seminary in 1976. He was ordained to the Holy Deaconate on Nov. 23, 1980. He married the former Barbara Nystoriak in 1978. Father Stephen was ordained to the Holy Priesthood on July 8, 1984. Following ordination he became Rector of St. Nicholas Orthodox Church, Auburn, N.Y. on Dec. 20, 1984, and served the parish until his death.

He was Spiritual Advisor of the District FROC and Junior FROC (Federated Russian Orthodox Club), and also served on the Board of the Auburn Human Rights Commission and Cayuga County Homesite. Father loved spending time with his family, cruising, traveling and was an avid New York Yankees fan.

In addition to his wife, Matushka Barbara, he is survived by two cherished children, Christopher David Mack, of Auburn, and Tanya Nicole Mack, of Wilmington, N.C., and his beloved granddaughter, Loralie Rose Mack, of Auburn. He is also survived by his father, Stephen Mack, of Scotia, N.Y.; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews.

Besides his mother, he was predeceased by his sister, Barbara Anne Mack Rimanosky, in 2000.

Friends are invited to call from 3 to 6 p.m. Friday in St. Nicholas Orthodox Church, 30 Cross St., Auburn. Orders of Priest Burial will be offered at 6 p.m. Friday in the church. A funeral liturgy with Panahyda will be offered at 9:30 a.m. Saturday in St. Nicholas. Burial will follow in St. Nicholas Cemetery, Aurelius, N.Y.

Contributions may be made in Father Mack’s memory to St. Nicholas Orthodox Church, 81 Cottage St., Auburn, NY 13021; Hospice of the Finger Lakes, 1130 Corporate Drive, Auburn, NY 13021 or Matthew House, 43 Metcalf Drive, Auburn, NY 13021.
