COMERS ROCK, VA. — Charles E. “Jake” VanBenschoten, 64 years old, passed away unexpectedly on May 22, 2018 at his home in Comers Rock (near Elk Creek, Va.). He was married to Bonnie Clark.
He is the son of Edwin J. VanBenschoten; siblings, Susan, Lorie A. Mosher (Edward L. Mosher), and Ronald, all of Auburn, N.Y. On his maternal side of family he leaves behind his mother, Charlene Ruby McKinney and step-siblings that reside in Lakeland, Fla. Jake leaves behind a daughter Jessie in Portland, Maine and a son Jacob in Waterloo, N.Y.
Jessie says her father enjoyed kayaking down the “new river,” going to the Fiddler’s Convention in Galax, Va., and that he made the best egg nog and French toast. Jake resided in the Locke/Genoa area where he had worked for Harvestor, Genoa Highway Department, and had a landscaping business prior to moving to Elk Creek, Va.
One of his best friends, “Chico” Dan Turner also passed away in October 2017.
A private ceremony will be held later this summer.
