CATO — Daniel Hempel passed away on Nov. 3, 2018.
He was the son of Thomas Hempel and Marguerite Foos Hempel. Dan was born Jan. 17, 1955 in Rochester, N.Y. He graduated from Port Byron High School in 1973. Dan married JoAnne Applebee on May 17, 1975. They had two sons, Jonathan, of Jackson, Ky., and Nathan, of Carlisle, Pa. Jon is married to Alison and they have six children. Nate is married to Jessie and they have two sons.
Dan owned and operated his own construction business for more than 30 years. He built and remodeled homes, replaced roofs, and whatever needed to be done. He also worked as a realtor for Sun Harvest Realty. He also volunteered time to help many people with home projects and when he was physically unable to do the work himself, he offered good solutions and instructions to others so they could complete the task.
He was an active member of the Conquest Fire Department for more than 25 years. Dan attended the Countryside Church and had been active in the men’s ministry. He helped begin a ramp ministry that built and provided access ramps to disabled residences in the area. The church appreciated the many fix-up projects Dan did there for God’s glory.
Dan is survived by and will be missed by his children and grandchildren; as well as his mother, five brothers, four sisters, and many nieces and nephews.
Calling hours for Dan will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday, Nov. 9, at Audioun Funeral Home LLC in Port Byron. Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 10, in Countryside Church in Spring Lake, followed by a graveside service in Conquest.
