Louise A. Mead

MORAVIA — Louise A. Mead, 79, resident of Mill Stream Court Apartments, passed away at Cortland Regional Hospital on Friday, Jan. 4, 2019 after a courageous battle with cancer.

Louise was born in Auburn on Aug. 24, 1939, a daughter of the late Harold A. and Isabelle (Morris) Defendorf Sr. She was a graduate of Moravia High School and had worked at NCR in Ithaca and Smith-Corona in Cortland when she was first married.

She also waitressed at local restaurants, and for several years, worked in customer service at the Modern Market in Moravia. Perhaps her most significant "job" was in her recent years at Mill Stream Court Apartments, where she organized events, decorated common areas and watched over the property and residents every day.

Louise was an active and lifetime member of the VFW Post 7127 Ladies Auxiliary in Moravia. Louise "Wuise" was characterized by her favorites: the color purple; cooking her children's and grandchildren's most requested foods; Tic-Tacs; 'Cuse basketball and football and the New York Yankees.

Her hobbies included iPad gaming, playing pitch and bingo, humming songs, listening to music and dancing. Most of all, she enjoyed the time spent with her loving family and friends, who will miss her deeply.

She is survived by her children, Michael A. (Marie) Pasho, of Moravia, Angelique M. Pasho, of Anderson South Carolina, Frederick P. (Donna) Pasho, of Moravia, John R. (April) Pasho III, of Olive Branch, Mississippi; her grandchildren, Nichole Oltz; Rachel (Zachary) Pickert, Eric (Marissa), Megan and Gregory Pasho; John Pasho IV and Jessica (Kendall) Faust; her great-grandchildren Adilynn; Brixley and Caelym; her siblings, Joyce Hawley;  Maryruth Shields and Harold "Duffy" (Lynne) Defendorf Jr. Louise was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Mead in 2011.

The family will receive friends from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 12, 2019 at VFW Post 7127, Grove Street Extension, in Moravia. A service of remembrance will then be held privately at Kelloggsville Cemetery. Kindly consider a donation in Louise's memory to Four Town First Aid, PO Box 28, Moravia, N.Y. 13118 or VFW Post 7127 Ladies Auxiliary, PO Box 547, Moravia, N.Y. 13118.
