Gary’s family request memorial contributions be directed to Finger Lakes SPCA, 41 York St., Auburn, NY 13021.
He was born on Oct. 14, 1946 in Auburn, the son of the late Jerome and Estelle (Mizro) Sweet. Gary was a 1964 graduate of Mt. Carmel High School and attended Cayuga Community College. He worked at Philips ECG in Seneca Falls, Southern Cayuga Central School, and most recently Dickman Farms, retiring in 2008.
Gary was a lifetime resident of Cayuga County, an avid outdoorsman, and shared his love of hunting and fishing with his sons, and wife, Kathy, at the ready for the cleaning and cooking of the days catch. He could be found most days working in the garden. While he fared much better with a fishing pole, he enjoyed chasing the white ball around the golf course.
Gary is survived by his loving and supportive wife of 30 years, Kathy (Dickerson), whom he married July 9, 1988; his sons, Gary (Wanda), Brian (Lynne), and Christopher Sweet; grandchildren, Abigaile and Collin Sweet; a daughter-in-law, Ellen Sweet; his sister, Beverly (Stephen) Thurston; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
