AUBURN — Harold J. Casler, 90, of Auburn, formerly of Cayuga Road, Cayuga, passed away peacefully Wednesday, Feb. 8, 2017 at the Auburn Rehab and Nursing Center. Mr. Casler was born in Cayuga, N.Y. at the home of his late parents, Frank and Anna Large Casler. Harold was a bricklayer, and in 1975 he founded Casler Masonry, with his sons, Michael and Matthew. He was a former President of the Bricklayers Union and served on the Union Springs School Board. Harold was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church.
Harold is survived by his beloved wife of 69 years, Genevieve “Jane” O’Connor Casler; his children, Maureen Gelsi, Michael Casler and his wife, Susan, Matthew Casler and his wife, Nancy, and Martin Casler and his wife, Deborah; his grandchildren, David (Tammy) Gelsi, Michele (Jim) Taber, Kimberly Turner, Anne Smith, Brian (Melissa) Casler, Daniel (Sarah) Casler, Kevin (Karen) Casler, Kathleen (Matthew) Hoadley, and Kelly (Keith) Kehoskie; step-granddaughter, Danielle (Jarod) Friedal; his sister-in-law, Patricia Casler; several great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Harold was predeceased by his siblings, Phyllis Hitt, Frances Wright, Hugh Casler, Alma Power, Joanne Atwater, and Harlow Casler; his son-in-law, David Gelsi, and brother-in-law, Joseph O’Connor.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday, Feb. 13 in St. Mary’s Church, with burial to follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery. Friends are invited to visit with his family from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the White Chapel Funeral Home Inc., 197 South St., Auburn.
