MORAVIA — Irene Elizabeth Dann Wheeler, 97, of Moravia, died Tuesday, May 14, 2019, at the Cortland Regional Hospital after a brief illness.
She was born Oct. 14, 1921, a daughter of Gaylord O. and Anna Bell Perkins Dann. Irene was a graduate of Homer High School class of 1940 and had been employed at Crescent Corset Co. and Cros-Ible Filtration both in Moravia as a sewing machine operator.
She was predeceased by her husband, Charles R. Wheeler; four brothers, Donald, Erwin, John and Norman, and two sisters, Alice and Bernice.
She is survived by one daughter, Shirley Willis, of Hobe Sound, Fla.; one son, Terry (Sandra) Wheeler, of Lake Como; five grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Arlene Murphy, and one brother, James (Lee Ann) Dann, both of Moravia; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, May 20, in Christ United Methodist Church of Locke and Moravia, 36 Church St., Moravia. Burial (delayed) will be in Sand Hill Cemetery. A calling hour will precede the funeral from 10 to 11 a.m. in the church. A reception will be held at the church fellowship hall immediately following the funeral services.
