AUBURN — John R. "Jack" "Oz" Mazzeo, 90, of Lake Avenue died Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2019 at his home. He was a native and life resident of Auburn. Jack was a communicant of Holy Family Church. He was a member of the Class of 1947 at Auburn West High School, and later graduated from Le Moyne College with a degree in business.
He served four straight years as a staff member at the United States Military Academy at West Point.
Throughout much of his life, Jack worked as an accountant at various businesses throughout central New York: American Locomotive, Zoto Corp. and Auburn Spark Plug, to name a few. Jack was an avid golfer and a board member at the Highland Park Country Club in Auburn. Throughout his life, Oz was a sports enthusiast and New York Yankees fan. Jack was an avid reader and frequented Seymour Library.
He is survived by nephews David (Karyn) Mazzeo, Richard (Della) Mazzeo, Jim Mazzeo, Michael (Linda) Mazzeo, Henry (Mary) Mazzeo and Patrick (Nancy) Mazzeo; nieces Cathy (John) Scollan, Diane (Tony) Troianello, Mary Ellen Piazza, Annie Mazzeo, Susan (Anthony) Patalano, Cindy Mazzeo and Becky (Richie) Salato. He is further survived by one sister-in-law, Dorthea Mazzeo; and ultimately survived by nephew Bob Mazzeo's widow, Margaret. Jack was given the unique blessing of being admired by so many loving great- and great-great-nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his brothers Nick, Tony, Mike and Hank Mazzeo; a sister Margaret Mazzeo; and nephew Bob Mazzeo.
Friends are invited to join the family for a Mass of Christian Burial to be offered 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 12 at Holy Family Church. Burial with full Military Honors will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours will be conducted 4 to 7 p.m. Friday in the Cheche Funeral Home, 1778 Clark St. Road, Auburn.
