AUBURN — On Wednesday, June 12, 2019, Lee N. Shaw passed away at the age of 89 after a brief battle with cancer.
He was born Feb. 28, 1930, in New Rochelle, N.Y., to Leo and Marie Shaw (née Heffernan). He attended high school at Canterbury Prep School in New Milford, Conn. He continued on to Amherst College to receive a bachelor’s degree in 1951. He played basketball and football, and stayed in touch with many classmates. He was the youngest vice president of International Finance at JP Morgan in New York City and traveled extensively in Europe. On weekends, he worked hard to start a farm in Auburn, N.Y. (Finger Lakes Region) — beginning with a few acres, growing oats, wheat, rye, and soybeans, building it into a 500 acre farm. He played golf from a young age and enjoyed the 19th hole, chatting with friends over a Dewars scotch. He is known for his love of the land, ambitious work ethic, razor sharp memory and mind, and the gift of conversation.
He was preceded in death by his father, Leo; his mother, Marie; his brother, Robert, and brother-in-law, Michael Sweeney.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Clare; step daughter, Lisa; his sister, Virginia; eight nieces and nephews; 23 great-nieces and nephews.
A funeral Mass will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, July 6, 2019, in Sacred Heart Church, 90 Melrose Road, Auburn.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Hospice of The Finger Lakes or a charity of your choosing.
Brew Funeral Home, 48 South St., Auburn, is in charge of the arrangements.
