Paul graduated from Port Byron Central School in 1959. He was a proud member of the U.S. Air Force and was honorably discharged in February of 1965. He worked at Warren State Hospital as a nurse and nurse supervisor for 25 years, retiring in 1996 to Florida, and returning to Pennsylvania in 2006.
