CAMILLUS — Ray S. “Buzz” Messenger, 81, of Camillus, passed away Tuesday, April 16, 2019, at Crouse Hospital.
A graduate of Auburn East High School, he attended Cornell University, graduated from Worcester Polytechnic Institute with a degree in mechanical engineering and received his MBA from the University of Rochester. Ray worked at Eastman Kodak for 29 years, during which time he was an active layperson in the church. Following his time at Kodak, Ray was ordained into the Episcopal Priesthood. He served at St. James’ Church in Skaneateles and St. James’ Church in Clinton. After retiring, Ray became a docent at Seward House Museum for 10 years.
Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Susan; children, Julia (Kenneth) Pearsall, Katrina (Paul) Ercole, Robert (Betsy) Messenger, and Bradley (Rebecca) Messenger; sister, Cornelia (James) Rogers; and grandchildren, Gregory Pearsall and William and Michael Ercole.

A memorial service in celebration of Ray’s life will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 27, in St. James’ Episcopal Church, 96 E. Genesee St., Skaneateles.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Parkinson’s Foundation, www.Parkinson.org or to Seward House Museum, 33 South St., Auburn, NY 13021, in honor of Ray’s great-great-grandfather, William H. Seward.
