AUBURN — Stephen F. Tomko, 76, of Auburn, passed away surrounded by his family on Feb. 10, 2017. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y. on Aug. 25, 1940, Stephen was the son of the late Walter and Ruth Quiney Tomko Cilowananchik.
His wife of 57 years, Anne Godet Tomko, were high school sweethearts. Stephen Tomko proudly served his country while in the United States Army from 1959-1965. After his service in the Army, Steve and Anne moved to upstate New York where he worked for NYSDOT for 28 years. After retirement Steve worked in the local Wal-Mart specializing in bike assembly and repair where he formed many friendships. He coached Little League baseball, started and organized the Sterling Recreation Playground, and was a volunteer fireman. His joy was working in his woodshop; his greatest pleasure was sharing his projects with friends and family, bowling, and was an avid fisherman. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family, often attending his grandchildren’s activities.
Along with his wife, Anne, Stephen is survived by his sons, Kevin (Jackie) Tomko and Tim (Sandy) Tomko; stepbrother, Dennis Cilowananchik; grandchildren, Jenna (Ryan) Leblond, Ryan Tomko (Teanna Lobo), and Joshua Tomko (Taylor Reynolds); great-grandchildren, Kaylee and Alyssa Leblond, and several nieces and nephews.
Stephen was predeceased by his parents; his sister, Ruth Murphy, and brother-in-law, Brian Murphy.
A celebration of life service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 17 in Port Byron Methodist Church. Immediately following the service there will be a reception from noon to 2:30 p.m. at the church hall, all are invited to attend both events.
