CATO — Virginia L. Gilmore, 84, of Short Cut Road, Cato, passed away Monday, May 13, 2019, at her home surrounded by her family.
She was born at home in Meridian, the daughter of the late David Ray Crandall and Mabel Standish. She was employed for years at Beaver Lake Nature Center, while also being a homemaker. She was an avid outdoorswoman, hunting, fishing, gardening, archery, and canning of things she grew in the garden.
She was predeceased by her daughter, Ferne Twomey; as well as siblings, Genevieve, Oray, Timothy, Clarence, Raymond, Leyla, Marion, Mike and Robert.
She is survived by her husband, Robert Gilmore; her son-in-law, Keith Twomey; granddaughter, Heather Twomey; two nieces, Rosemary Caudros, of Virginia, and Diane Paxhia, of Auburn; nephew, Joey Paxhia, of Utica; sisters, Alice Kolb, and Beverly Viglione; brothers, Ray Crandall, and Pearl Eugene Crandall; as well as many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank Hospice of the Finger Lakes for their care, and Tim and Butch Kolb for their help during Virginia’s illness.
