HIT: To the Auburn and Jordan-Elbridge high school competition field bands, which concluded a great season of hard work with performances Sunday in Syracuse.
These talented students were among the hundreds who took part in the New York State Field Band Conference state finals at the Carrier Dome. The leaders of both of the local bands said that Sunday's performances were their best of the year, a testament to the long hours of practice these musicians put in over the past several months.
The field band season is a fun but grueling experience, starting with practices in the hot summer sun and ending with Sunday's show under the dome roof with cold, October rain beating down outside.
All of the students, teachers and families from Auburn and Jordan-Elbridge should feel proud of their accomplishments.
MISS: To a nasty couple of weather days in upstate New York, including the Cayuga County area.
Rain, heavy at times, arrived Saturday night and persisted well into Monday morning, resulting in some localized flooding. In addition, fierce wind came into the region just as the rain was slowing down.
It was recipe for power outages, falling trees and swollen waterways. Kudos and thanks to first responders and highway and utility crews who were out there helping to minimize the damage and disruption.
