MISS: To the struggles of the Syracuse University mens basketball team.

The Orange currently stand at 7-4 after losing back-to-back home games — Saturday at the hands of Old Dominion and Tuesday against the Buffalo Bulls.

To be fair, Buffalo came into the Carrier Dome with an undefeated record and a No. 14 national ranking, but the loss is SU's fourth non-conference defeat of the season. Syracuse has a lot of work to do to get back into the Top 25 and make it into the NCAA Tournament, but there are a lot of games still to be played.

HIT: To the Syracuse University women's basketball team.

In contrast with the men, the SU women are off to a strong start with a record of 9-2.

The team is 5-0 so far at the dome this season and is currently riding a three-game winning in streak during which its players racked up 98, 96 and 94 points per game.

The team this week was ranked No. 14 in the USA Today Coaches Poll.

If you want to watch a quality team competing at the highest levels of collegiate basketball, make the trip over to Syracuse to see the women play this year.

HIT: To a passion for writing.

Jeff Delbel, of Auburn, recently received the People's Choice Award at the YMCA of Greater Syracuse's CNY Book Awards. Delbel's latest work, "Salvatore," is a followup to his 2016 novel, "The Flight of Jimmy Eagleson."

Delbel retired in 2008 after a career as a teacher and administrator at Cayuga Community College and still teaches some classes online.
