I am the medical director of the emergency room at Auburn Community Hospital and also serve as the medical director for TLC EMS Inc. The statements made by Mr. Fricano to the Auburn City Council regarding the rapidly rising costs of providing medical care are accurate and not overstated in the least. All sectors of medical care — from private physicians to hospitals, clinics and ambulance services, paid or volunteer — are hard-pressed to keep up with the changing requirements of medical standards and ever increasing economic pressures. Patient care is improved when news drugs, equipment and methodologies are put into practice. As a result there is less morbidity and mortality. The costs are outweighed by the improved outcomes for critically ill and injured patients.
As the medical director for TLC I also want to take this opportunity to express my appreciation to the dedicated, competent and caring EMTs and paramedics who are serving Auburn. Their job is not an easy one and it requires constant training, focus and continuing education. As a result, we have an excellent ambulance service providing professional and high quality emergency medical care to our community.
