We are at a critical moment for environmental protection in the Finger Lakes. Keith Batman is best prepared to fight for our region and to secure the resources we need to thrive in the face of environmental challenges.
Owasco and Skaneateles Lakes are facing algal blooms that have surprised longtime residents. Gary Finch has been content to let others do the heavy lifting on this critical matter. He was conspicuously silent following the bloom on Skaneateles Lake last fall, and he has remained quiet this summer as residents’ tension rises with each hot day. The Nine Element Plan to address harmful algal blooms? That came from the governor’s office with no input from Mr. Finch.
Keith Batman has done the heavy lifting on water quality. As the past chair of the Cayuga County Water Quality Management Agency he secured funding for water treatment for the drinking water of Auburn and Owasco. He is ready to implement the Nine Element Plan and to advocate for a stronger plan if necessary.
Mr. Finch has also been silent about the proposed trash incinerator in Seneca County. The incinerator would be a disaster for our vital tourism industry which depends on our region’s natural beauty and wineries. Mr. Finch has remained on the sidelines, content to let others take up the fight.
Keith Batman knows that the environment is critical to our identity and our economic future. We need to preserve our clean water and our clean air, and Keith will fight for it.
