The Cayuga County Legislature had an opportunity to make a choice that would have made a situation gone from bad to good, but choose not to make a decision and walk away with choosing not to do the right thing again. With a packed room of fire personnel from volunteer fire departments requesting reinstatement of the former deputy director of emergency management, a person, these men and women, have firsthand years of experience working with, and faith that this employee is the right person to do the job and get the office back on track, and this Legislature doesn’t listen to them.
Who better to know the value of the person, and the depth of professionalism and capabilities of that person, but those of the public they had to work with on a daily basis? Don’t make this about politics, don’t make this about personalities, make it about this person who can do the job and get it done right! Yes, this person, under the final straw that broke the camel’s back, resigned under duress. Sometimes, you have to walk away, when things get so bad that no one else will see how bad things are and leave the situation so powerless. It is better to walk away before disaster strikes. I know I wouldn’t want that on my conscience. Would any of the legislators? So now it is over, let this person get on with their work and let them do the job they are paid to do, and the volunteer fire departments go on helping. Don’t sweat the small stuff, there is bigger stuff to be worried about.
