I would like to take this opportunity to respond to your very thoughtful editorial "More explanation needed on Auburn VA clinic" that was published on Jan. 13, 2019.
We were excited to announce on Jan. 2 that the solicitation and award process for the Auburn Community Based Outpatient Clinic (CBOC) was completed and that STG International, Inc. of Alexandria, VA was awarded the contract for the clinic. As we indicated, STG International was selected because their proposal best supports our mission of providing the finest care possible to our Veterans.
As you have correctly reported, the clinic will be relocating to the former Rite-Aid Pharmacy building located at 47 East Genesee St. on the corner of North Fulton Street within the city of Auburn. The location provides easy access, convenient and dedicated parking and is located on a Centro bus route.
The new location is over 10,000 square feet with room for additional expansion. The floor plan will allow space for Patient Aligned Care Teams and the expansion of Mental Health and Women’s Telehealth services.
We agree with your view on the need for clear communication regarding this change. We sent letters to all Veterans utilizing the Auburn CBOC informing them of the relocation in advance of the public announcement. As a follow up to the letters, we are planning to host a community-wide town hall meeting to outline the features of the clinic and to answer any questions our Veterans, elected representative and other members of the community may have. We are working with the staff of STG International on an exact date, time and location and will make that announcement as soon as possible.
I want to thank the Veterans of Cayuga County for entrusting their care to the Syracuse VA Medical Center and our Auburn Community Based Outpatient Clinic. Moreover, I want to thank Auburn Community Hospital for providing care to our Veterans over these past years. We look forward to working with them in the coming weeks to ensure their transition to the new location is seamless.
