The Board of Directors of the Skaneateles Lake Association notes with deep sadness the passing of Alfred (Al) Coon.
Al was an incredible outdoorsman and amazing individual. He was also a committed citizen steward of Skaneateles Lake long before he became the Skaneateles Lake Association (SLA) Invasive Species Monitoring Steward at the Town of Scott Boat Launch and Park.
As the SLA Invasive Species Monitoring Steward for the Town of Scott Boat Launch, Al ensured that watercraft entering Skaneateles Lake from that launch were clean, drained and dry before launching and also made sure that all who came to launch understood why that was so important to the health of the lake. He was very knowledgeable about all lake issues.
The SLA Board of Directors and the entire Skaneateles Lake community were fortunate to have Al as an Invasive Species Monitoring Steward. He will be dearly missed as a member of the SLA team, but he will never be forgotten. He will continue to serve as an inspiration to us all. We cannot think of a better person who embodies what it means to be a steward of the lake.
On behalf of the SLA Board of Directors we extend our condolences to Al’s wife, Nancy, and his entire family.
