In a recent obituary, Dr. Donald W. Delahanty's smiling face brought back memories of an earlier time when he was chief of surgery at Auburn Memorial Hospital.
Not only was he an honorable, dedicated man of faith, he was also a humble man. He was a role model that today’s youth would do well to emulate.
One such memory remains with me. I recount a phone call about six years ago. He introduced himself and complimented me on an article that was written by me in The Citizen and encouraged me to keep up with my writing. Imagine how incredible that was. Later, I received his address through a friend and tried to reach him; he had moved and my letter was returned marked address unknown. My deepest condolences to his wife, Jacqueline, and family. He was truly a gift from God. May he rest in peace.
