To Rep. John Katko:
I was very disappointed that you voted in favor of the House tax bill. I realize that you are a Republican, but I have defended you to Democratic friends as a moderate, independent Republican. That becomes harder to do when you support this bill which carries out the Trump administration’s agenda which helps the very wealthy and large corporations, while making life harder for ordinary people.
Making matters worse is that as a New York representative, your own state is one whose citizens will be especially disadvantaged by the provisions of this bill. This is generally recognized. There are many areas in which I disagree with Trump’s initiatives and positions, but this area is one in which I had hoped you as our representative would have seen fit to dissent and protect the interests of your constituents, the ordinary citizens of New York state.
