Generally, so far this winter, we’ve had fairly clear roads and parking lots. Yet, as central New York residents saw this week, this pattern will change during the season.
For a person who uses an accessible vehicle, winter parking and access pose extra challenges. Here’s what I mean. If snow is plowed into an accessible parking spot, someone with a wheelchair lift in their van does not have room to open their door, lower their ramp, nor maneuver out of their vehicle. Or, if someone parks in an accessible spot (even for a short time), it can mean the person who really needs this space will not be able to conduct their business.
ARISE hopes you’ll join us during 2019, in ensuring that people who need accessible parking can always find it — no matter what the snowfall is like!
