Sixteen years ago, nearly to the day, the Finger Lakes SPCA of CNY on York Street held its first motorcycle ride, titled "Bikers for Paws and Claws." This event was founded by Susan Rice and myself. Although we had some inclement weather it was still a success, a safe ride with a poker run theme to it. One person that rode still stands out in my mind: Larry Brooke from Ithaca happened to be riding by and he and his rider were one of the first to sign up to ride. He was riding a 1974 FLH Harley made by AMF.
Since the inception this ride has grown in popularity with many local merchants contributing door prizes; local DJ Jane Stebbins provided music one year and a few times there has been a "best bike" contest after the ride.
This ride has always been a great community event that enhances the mission of the SPCA, which helps our animals while we have fun riding. So ... save the date of July 28, 2019, and support the SPCA. I hope to see big turnout and everyone ride safe!
