I have quietly sat back for long enough and watched a good, decent man’s name and reputation be marred by hearsay and rumors. I worked in the Cayuga County Emergency Services Office for the last three years with Niel Rivenburgh and cannot believe the way he was treated by the former administrator and the few fire chiefs who supposedly had issues with him. Never in the time that I worked with him was he anything but professional and efficient. He was very organized and there is no better grant writer. What a loss for the county. The failure within that office lies on the shoulders of the former administrator and others. Sadly, there are those out in the community who don’t present themselves the way that they truly are and choose to spread very skewed interpretations of the inner workings of that office.
I would like to ask some of these first responders to take a good hard look at themselves and try to remember why they became a firefighter or EMT in the first place. It seems like some of these people have lost focus of the purpose of the job and perhaps should take a step back because they are doing it for the wrong reasons.
I also think ALL of the legislators owe Niel an apology; they failed too.
