I am Steven Buschman and I am running to be your next Auburn City Court judge. I am a life-long registered Democrat and am seeking the endorsement of the people on Sept. 13 to represent my party, the Democratic Party. I am a Democrat and intend on remaining a Democrat. However, I am running a grassroots campaign that prioritizes people over politics and focuses on criminal justice issues affecting the health and well-being of our community.

As far as endorsements from other political parties and the creation of my own party, People Over Politics, I have provided my thoughts at length on my Committee to Elect Steven Buschman Facebook page. I strongly urge you to listen.

My judicial priorities consist of community safety first, equal justice for all under the law and the use of a multi-agency approach in dealing with the serious drug and behavioral health issues confronting our community. I will be a fair but firm judge while taking into account each case and its effect on the community as a whole.

As far as experience, I have been a courtroom attorney and litigator for over 20 years and have made my living negotiating and trying cases that involve all of the complex issues that face our community. Such cases include criminal matters, drug and alcohol addiction, domestic abuse, financial property, housing matters and child-related problems. I have worked daily on the same issues that the full-time city court judge must deal with. In my humble opinion, my life and career has prepared me to be successful in this position.

I believe in the integrity of judicial campaigns and their reflection on the participants and the community as a whole. In my opinion judicial offices at the local level are apolitical by nature and all voters, no matter their political party, should have their voices heard. That has been a cornerstone of my campaign and I will continue to fight for all rank-and-file voters of this community no matter their political affiliation. All deserve equality under the eyes of the law.

Lastly, I want to thank all of you as my family and I have been overwhelmed with your support and genuine care for Auburn and its future. I love this community and can promise that if I’m elected, I will work hard within the justice system to build an even safer, stronger and healthier city for us as we move forward.
