SKANEATELES | Skaneateles is slated host its annual After the Ball event June 6, providing those attending the senior ball with a safe, fun night of games, food and prizes.
To be held at the Ultimate Goal, the After the Ball event will include a popular hypnotist show, card games, carnival games and a chance to win prizes.
“It is a special community that yearly plans for and provides a unique night-long event for its graduating seniors,” said Emily Gregg, chairwoman of the 2015 After the Ball party. “It truly takes a village to put on this event, and we’ve been fortunate year after year to receive the support of our community to make it happen.”
The After the Ball event was created in 2006 by Parents and Children Together to provide a safe evening of activities immediately after the senior ball.
“We want our soon-to-be-graduates to be secure in a chaperoned, overnight environment where they will not be tempted to make a bad decision that could have permanent repercussions,” Gregg said.
“We work very hard to convey to the graduates just how lucky they are to live in a community where people care about them and their safety,” High School Principal Greg Santoro said. “Many of our faculty are involved in the event, and together with parents and the community, we show these kids a pretty good time.”
This year’s After the Ball committee includes: Betsy Carter, Kim Driscoll, Katherine Farrell, MaryKay Foehl, Becky Goodell, Emily Gregg, Nancy Lane, Martha Lawson, Sharon Magee, Molly McNeil, Patricia Mele, Lynne Palmer, Cristina Pietropaoli, Sharon Singlar, Libby Soderberg, Wendy Rourke and Brad Wirth.
Dozens of teachers and volunteers will also help with the event.
“This community has provided the seniors with a superior education and, with the After the Ball party, a congratulations to them for all of their hard work,“ Santoro said.
Community members can support the event in a number of ways. You can make a tax-deductible donation by sending a check to PACT, c/o Kim Driscoll, 3051 E. Lake Road, Skaneateles, NY 13152. Sponsorship opportunities are also available.
You can also attend the Senior Pasta Dinner slated for March 13 at the high school. Seniors are currently selling $5 raffle tickets for a drawing to be held that evening.
“We thank everyone in the community who will support our senior graduates,” Gregg said.
