Auburn swimmers victorious

AUBURN - Katie Lia, Chandra Chaffee, and Nicole Roberts, each swimming in the final home meet of their high school careers, played key roles in Auburn High's 95-72 victory over Cortland on Friday.

Lia placed first in the 500 freestyle relay (6:10.32), Chaffee took the 100 breaststroke (1:24.89), and the two of them combined with Roberts and junior Jessie Walsh to win the 400 freestyle relay (4:34.53)

Three Maroons clinched a spot in the sectionals. Candice Elliott secured her bid by winning the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:33.13, Amanda Bragan earned a place in the 500 freestyle (6:13.99, second), and Samantha Morin in the 100 backstroke (1:11.68).

Other individual winners included Catie Swartz in the 50 freestyle (25.97) and Emily Offenburg in the 100 freestyle (1:02.23).

Auburn (7-2) swims in its final dual meet of the season on Tuesday at Jamesville-DeWitt.

Section III, Class B Playoffs

Jamesville-DeWitt 2, Skaneateles 1

JAMESVILLE - No.13 seed Skaneateles was unable to pull off a second consecutive upset.

On Tuesday, the Lakers knocked off 4th-seeded South Jefferson, but they were unable to come back from a 2-0 halftime deficit against the Spartans.

Derek Moss scored the Lakers' lone goal on an assist from Nick Haanschoten. Goalie Peter Torrey had 15 saves.

Section III, Class C Playoffs

New York Mills 3,

Weedsport 0

NEW YORK MILLS - The shutout ends Weedsport's season with a record of 9-8-2. Goalie Sierra Gansert made 21 saves for the Warriors.


Crossover Game

Jordan-Elbridge 20,

Mount Markham 6

ELBRIDGE - Jeremy DeJohn (113), and Kyle Guadagnola (104) both topped the century mark in rushing yards. Both backs also had touchdown runs, as did Jeff George.

Tim Berlin paced the defense with 13 tackles, followed by Guadagnola with 12.

J-E (2-6) hosts Cato-Meridian next Friday.

Canastota 29, Port Byron 18

PORT BYRON - Brett Moon did his part for the Panthers, racking up 176 yards rushing and two touchdowns, including one score from 45 yards out. Ryan Major added a three-yard touchdown run. Ray Miles starred on defense with two interceptions.

Port Byron finished its season 1-7.

Little Falls 31,

Cato-Meridian 18

NORTH SYRACUSE - Doug Weatherstone threw for two touchdowns and 110 yards for the Blue Devils.

Ryan Myers rushed for a touchdown and 68 yards. Mike Wild caught a 48-yard score.

Cato-Meridian plays at Jordan-Elbridge next Friday at 7 p.m.
