The Auburn 12U Xtreme team rallied to defeat the Victor Vipers "Pink" team 19-11 to capture the Midlakes Fastpitch 12U Invitational over the weekend.
Auburn trailed 11-10 at one point, but scored nine runs over the final two innings to claim the tourney and finish the weekend with a perfect 5-0 record. The Xtreme finished the championship game with 20 hits as a team.
In the championship game, Elise Clifford collected five hits (double, three RBIs), while Madison Lowe (triple, two RBIs) and Emma Merkley (two doubles) both recorded four hits. Colleen Jump and Carly Hopper both had two hits. Hopper and Annabella Mondelli led Auburn from the circle, combining to allow five hits with eight strikeouts.
Auburn opened the tournament with a 17-2 win over the Rochester Power with Lowe delivering a one-hitter. Reese Murphy, Brynnly Goldsworth, Kylie Guarino, Merkley, Lowe, Clifford and Hopper each had RBI hits.
On Saturday, Auburn topped the Victor Vipers "Black" team 12-6, with Mondello, Hopper and Clifford all recording two hits with two RBIs. Mondello also pitched a two-hitter with four strikeouts. Later on Saturday, the Xtreme defeated the Victor "Pink" team 6-3 in the first meeting of the weekend. Hopper allowed three hits and struck out seven. Mondello dropped in two hits while Merkley, Lowe, Jump, and Goldsworth all chipped in with one.
In Sunday's semifinals, Auburn slipped by Victor's "Black" team again with a 5-4 win. Lowe earned the win while scattering eight hits with four strikeouts. Hopper led the offense with two hits (double) and one RBI.
Jr. Olympic Softball
Mets 7, Yankees 4: Gianna Gagliardi went 4-for-4 while Olivia Shaw and Catherine Ciampi (double) were both 3-for-3 for the Mets. Olivia Reilley, Madeline Nighingale and Gagliardi each pitched in the win, with Reilley delivering three strikeouts to win the game.
Grace Ryan, Kiara Thurston, Marissa Pesarchick and Lucianna Debois had one hit each for the Yankees.
Boys and Girls Baseball
Gaston-Moore Photography Marlins 14, Majorpalooza Pirates 13: Nicolas Mott and Nico Zatizibal led the Marlins with four hits and four runs each. Mott also homered, while Zatizibal's RBI double in the bottom of the fifth drove in Lucas Exley for the winning run.
Rosalynn Coomber had a three-run home run for the Pirates, while Tucker Bellamy, Lucianna Debois, Jake Pollock Jr. and Atticus Garland all scored two runs.
Indians 25, Orioles 24: Kasey Jordan hit for the cycle while Parker Caruana, Jack Redfield and Connor Wilcox each had five hits each. Jacob King, Deandre Agee, Lyla Serrett and Teagen Tallman all had four.
Elena Hogan, Patrick Hogan and Avalina Morell posted four hits for the Orioles while Ryan Parker totaled three hits including a home run.
RMAZ Awards Dodgers 22, #22 Strong Brewers 14: Carter Wilson, Braeden Wilson, Charlie DeRosa, Ben Chapman, Nolin Barnes, Owen Chalupnicki and Jack Murphy all finished with three hits for the Dodgers.
For the Brewers, Miranda Maher, Billy Kufs, Jonny Salvage and Gavin Stewart dropped in four hits each. Charlie Zambito added two hits.
Byrne Dairy Yankees 22, Vision Care Associate Braves 18: Sofia Caci paced the Yankees by going 4-for-4 with a grand slam and seven RBIs. Jeffrey Garrigan was 3-for-5 with three runs and one RBI, and Jake Rumpf was 4-for-4 with three runs. Rushi Vaishampayan chipped in with three hits and two runs.
The Braves were led by a 4-for-4 day from Javier Torres, who also recorded four runs and two RBIs. Harlan Hoey, Dom Bergerstock and Cole Lupo were all 4-for-4 with three runs.
FROM LAST WEEK
Auburn Xtreme 12U 12, Clyde-Savannah 6: Emma Merkley paced the offense with three hits (double) and four RBIs. Annabella Mondello, Carly Hopper, Colleen Jump, Ellie Brozon and Elise Clifford all added RBI singles. Madison Lowe and Mondello combined to pitch the Xtreme to the win, with one hit against and eight strikeouts.
Auburn Xtreme 12U 15, Marcus Whitman 1: Reese Murphy and Jump both had two hits in the second win of the doubleheader. Brynyly Goldsworthy, Abby Carr, Kyle Guarino (double), Lowe, Merkley, Mondello and Clifford each posted one hit and two RBIs. Lowe and Hopper teamed up to throw a no-hitter in a four-inning game. They struck out five batters.
