Port Byron boys basketball rode a big first quarter and late free throws to a win over Faith Heritage 56-53 Monday.
Nick Jefferds paced the team with 17 points along with four assists, while Scott Compson added 14 points, seven rebounds and four assists. Tyrease Carter added 10 points while hauling in eight boards.
Port Byron was ahead 22-7 after the first quarter, then as Faith Heritage stormed back went 5-for-6 from the free-throw line late, including some makes by Compson and Kody Kurtz. Another key for the Panthers was holding Faith Heritage's Aiden Retzos, who averages over 27 points per game, to 14.
The Panthers (4-7) host Tully Wednesday.
Chittenango 3, Cato-Meridian 0: The Blue Devils lost by games of 25-8, 25-9, and 25-8. Marissa Teska posted four digs and Sydney Stevens had two aces.
Baldwinsville 55, Weedsport 38: The Warriors' Joe Wloch won the 200 freestyle (2:02.08) and the 500 freestyle (5:24.01), while Allison House took the 100 backstroke (1:07.92). In the 200 freestyle relay, David Sterling, Andrew Sayles, Andrew Williams and Caleb Tracy won in 1:42.79.
