Brett Saroodis hit a go-ahead three-pointer with 20 seconds left as the Port Byron boys basketball team rallied to beat Onondaga 44-42 on Monday night.

Saroodis led all scorers with 21 points and added 11 rebounds to finish with a double-double.

The Panthers trailed by eight points early in the fourth quarter but Jay Snyder made back-to-back baskets to jump start the rally. Snyder finished with nine points. Jake Stuart added eight points and nine rebounds.

Port Byron ends the regular season with a 12-8 record and awaits its seeding in the Section III, Class c playoffs.



IAC Championships: Southern Cayuga finished second overall with 407 points, trailing only the host school Waverly.

The Chiefs won five events.

Ian Murray won both the 200 IM (2:06.80) and 100 backstroke (56.24), while Joseph Angotti finished first in the 200 freestyle (1:51.42) and was the runner-up in the 100 freestyle (48.92).

Southern Cayuga also took home two of the three relay events. Murray, Jordan Stephenson, George Vreeland and Angotti were first in the 200 freestyle relay (1:34.31) and that same foursome had the best time in the 200 medley relay (1:48.74).

Murray (200 IM, 100 backstroke), Angotti (100 freestyle) and the 200 freestyle relay team each set new school records.

Southern Cayuga moves on to preliminaries for sectionals Wednesday at Watkins Glen. Sectional finals are Saturday at Owego.
