Skaneateles' Nathan Wellington catches pass in the end zone for a touchdown against Chenango Forks in the NYSPHSAA Class B regional Nov. 10 at Cicero-North Syracuse High School.

Two seasons ago, Nate Wellington was a member of the Skaneateles football team that capped off its season with a state championship win at the Carrier Dome in Syracuse.

Now Wellington will try to make the Dome his permanent football home. The Lakers senior will attend Syracuse University in the fall as a preferred walk-on for the football team.

A three-year member of Skaneateles' varsity team, Wellington finished his career with 119 receptions and 2,347 yards for 24 touchdowns. This year as a senior, Wellington posted 59 catches, 1,095 yards and 11 touchdowns. He had six 100-yard games in 11 contests as the Lakers went 11-1, falling in the NYSPHSAA Class B semifinal to Batavia.

As a junior, Wellington was a starting receiver on Skaneateles' Class C state championship team. During the Lakers' championship run, Wellington posted 104 yards and three touchdowns in the Section III championship against General Brown, then 133 yards in the state semifinal against Cleveland Hills.

Wellington is also a two-time selection for the all-state team, receiving third-team honors in both 2017 and 2018.
