Local Roundup: Southern Cayuga picks up win in season opener against Lansing

The Southern Cayuga softball team opened the season with a 13-6 win over Lansing on Thursday.

The Chiefs' Kaley Driscoll went 2-for-3 with three runs and an RBI, while Brooke Walter batted 2-for-4 with a pair of runs scored. Jessie Farkas had a run and an RBI, and Brittney Meade and Jay'Via Smith each had a single, an RBI and a run.

Shannon O'Neil went the distance in the circle with one strikeout, and went 1-for-4 with two runs at the plate.

Southern Cayuga (1-0) travels to Union Springs Saturday.

Union Springs 15, Trumansburg 0: Grace Van Horn struck out nine batters in a two-hitter in five innings.

Telona White registered two hits, including a home run and three RBIs. Shelby Koch (triple), Bailey Mudge and Taylor Perkins each had two hits.

Union Springs (2-0) hosts Southern Cayuga on Saturday.

Girls Lacrosse

Auburn 15, Rome Free Academy 3: Marisa Locastro registered three goals and one assist for the Maroons, while Abbie Izzo, Judy Rescott and Marguerite Cuddy each added two goals and one assist.

Jordan Taylor and Jillian Alberici each scored twice, Natalie Calandra-Ryan and Gabby McGinn each had one goal and one assist, and Sam Dixon and Brooke Barnes each had one helper. Quinn Brady made two saves for the win.
