Here's a quick look at the Syracuse football team's bowl game that was announced Sunday. The Orange has a spot in the Camping World Bowl and will take on a rival from its old Big East days, West Virginia, which now plays in the Big 12.

WHEN: No. 17 Syracuse (9-3, Atlantic Coast Conference, No. 20 College Football Playoff) vs. No. 15 West Virginia (8-3, Big 12, No. 16 CFP), Dec. 28, 5:15 p.m. ET

LOCATION: Orlando, Florida


Syracuse: QB Eric Dungey, 205 of 341 for 2,565 yards with 17 touchdown passes and seven interceptions. 167 carries for 732 yards and 15 touchdowns.

West Virginia: QB Will Grier, 266 of 397 for 3,864 yards with 37 touchdown passes and eight interceptions.


Syracuse: The Orange scored at least 50 points in five regular-season games. Syracuse played at Clemson this year and gave the playoff-bound Tigers their toughest regular-season test before falling 27-23.

West Virginia: The Mountaineers boast one of the nation's most potent offenses and average 520.4 yards and 42.3 points.


Syracuse beat West Virginia 38-14 in the 2012 Pinstripe Bowl. The two former Big East rivals have met 60 times, with Syracuse owning a 33-27 edge.


Syracuse: 26th bowl appearance overall but first since 2013. Syracuse played in this game and lost to Georgia Tech 51-14 in 2004 when it was known as the Champs Sports Bowl.

West Virginia: 37th bowl appearance overall and fifth appearance in the Camping World, though it was known by other names during the Mountaineers' previous trips. West Virginia's most recent appearance in this game was a 31-14 loss to Miami in the 2016 Russell Athletic Bowl.
