SKANEATELES — A group of 10 Skaneateles High School students participated in the DECA State Career Conference held at the Riverside Convention Center in Rochester March 8-10.
Dan Mulroy’s Skaneateles DECA team consisted of seniors Patrick Greenfield, Matthew Neumann, Joshua Luce, Reggie Buell, Kyler Viggiano, Lydia Parker, Malcolm Lombardi, Tommy Seeley and Jacob Stone as well as junior Aidan Bennett.
Nearly 3,000 students took part in the conference, competing in a variety of events held in the fields of marketing, finance, business management and entrepreneurship.
DECA prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs in marketing, finance, hospitality and management in high schools and colleges around the globe.
Utilizing lessons learned from DECA, students become academically prepared for college and career in those fields while also becoming community-oriented by gaining an appreciation for the benefits of service and their potential impact on the community and world.
DECA also helps push students become professionally responsible with ethics, integrity and high standards while becoming experienced leaders by practicing key leadership skills such as goal setting, consensus building, and project management.
Several DECA students received recognition following the State Career Conference, including Lombardi, Luce and Greenfield, who managed top 10 test scores.
Lombardi and Seeley finished in the top 10 overall in the Travel & Tourism Decision Making competition. Luce also scored in the top 10 overall in Business Services Marketing.
Beyond competing, the students also took part in various leadership seminars.
