About Strawberry Fields Hydroponic Farm

Strawberry Fields Hydroponic Farm

Doug and Linda Eldred from the Skaneateles area, farming over 1400 acres. After much research about hydroponic growing, we decided to open Strawberry Fields U-Pick Hydroponic Farm in July of 2009. We have always enjoyed gardening but did not like all the weeding that goes along with it. So, we are very excited to offer this concept to our local community for the freshest tasting strawberries and vegetables. Bring your whole family (young and old) for an exciting experience picking farm fresh locally grown fruits and vegetables. You'll love this easy, clean concept and the taste!

"Hydroponics" in its simplest form is growing plants in a "medium" by supplying all the necessary nutrients in the plants "water" rather than in the soil. This new and innovated approach to "dirt less growing" allows the plants to get exactly what they need to produce exceptional tasting fruits and vegetables with out competing with weeds, thus giving a bigger yield. Each stack is made of heavy duty Styrofoam with each pot having 4 sections for each plant. Each pot is then stacked 5 tier high, one on top of the other on a pole.  Each stack therefore holds 20 plants which can be turned for even distribution of sunlight.
